Finding the right tool

At the heart of their operations is Alex, the Business Analyst in the finance department, whose crucial work in generating revenue reports empowers the leadership team to effectively manage costs and optimize business operations. 

"Our team is primarily made up of developers and software engineers, which is why we chose Timeneye. Its Asana integration allows us to structure our projects and tasks in a familiar way," explained Alex. "Additionally, we were looking for several important features in a time tracking tool, such as the ability to break down projects into phases, allocate monetary budgets, and approve timesheets" she added.

Managing a rapidly growing business was quite challenging—especially when it came to keeping track of numerous new projects and monitoring profitability. 

“We primarily use Timeneye to monitor whether projects are being onboarded within the time frame we have allocated in our budget,” Alex explains when asked about the tool's value. “In short, we want to know if we are on budget and on time for delivery” she continues. 

Onboarding the team  

When asked about the team's reaction to the introduction of a time tracking tool, Alex candidly stated, “Nobody likes change, so it was hard at the beginning.” Despite the difficulties, she reassured the team and united them toward a common goal.  

She described her onboarding strategy: “We explained to our employees that time tracking was an essential business requirement and did our best to address all potential pain points before proceeding. We clarified that the purpose of time tracking is not to monitor everyone’s activities, but to ensure that the time and resources allocated to projects align with the company’s expectations.” 

But Alex didn’t stop there. To seamlessly integrate Timeneye into the workflow, she uploaded comprehensive guides and documentation to the company’s Wiki page. "The resources in your Help Centre were invaluable during this phase," she noted.

For Alex and her team, Timeneye’s customizable reports have been a game-changer. "The insights have been helpful," she shares, "enabling us to finally align our costs with revenue in our accounting software." 

"As part of my role in trend analysis, Timeneye has become an indispensable tool, revealing the precise time allocation across various project phases. In the finance department, categorizing hours into development time is crucial, and Timeneye allows us to associate these hours with their respective costs through hourly rates. This way we have an overview of how our company is doing.” she explains. 

Spectral Energy, like many of our clients, depends on Timeneye's data for accurate project forecasting. Both Project and Group managers utilize Timeneye daily to ensure that tracked hours align with budgeted time in real-time. 

As Spectral Energy continues its rapid growth, the need for detailed profitability reports becomes essential. This is why Alex has begun exploring the potential of our Power BI integration. 

"Although I'm just beginning to explore this feature," Alex confessed, "a demo call with a Timeneye IT specialist was incredibly helpful. They patiently guided me through the process, sharing their screen to ensure I could use Timeneye as a data source for Power BI and start building our reports."
